Publication design & DTP

Key answer: We design and typeset publications: catalogues, annual reports, books, corporate materials. With the typographic precision print taught us, and production supervision from file to finished run.

In print there is no "we'll fix it after launch". Every detail – the light between letters, the rhythm of columns, the colour on a specific paper – stays forever in thousands of copies. That discipline shaped our craft: 22 years of publication design taught us a precision we now carry into digital products as well.

For clients this means a rare competence: one studio that can design an annual report for print, its digital version for the web and the board presentation – all in one coherent visual language.

Problems we solve

  • Company materials look chaotic: we design publication systems consistent with your visual identity.
  • The catalogue should be a showpiece but reads like a price list: we combine attractive form with a functional structure where customers find what they need.
  • "The printer ruined it": we prepare flawless production files and check quality before the run reaches your warehouse.
  • The annual report starts from zero every year: we build templates and systems that make every edition faster and cheaper.

What we actually do

Catalogues and product materials

Catalogues that bring order to even highly complex offers: considered structure, readable data tables, product photography, indexes. We design for the user – the salesperson and the customer – not only for the trade-fair effect.

Annual reports and corporate publishing

Reports people actually want to read: information hierarchy, infographics and data visualisation, typography that builds institutional gravity. Experience with cultural and scientific institutions taught us to combine substantive rigour with attractive form.

Books, albums and cultural publications

From the publishing concept through design, typesetting and prepress to production supervision. We treat the choice of typeface, paper and binding as part of the content.

Typesetting and prepress

Professional multilingual typesetting, typographic proofreading, colour management, imposition, production files to printer specification, proofs and press checks.

How we work together

  1. Brief: purpose, audience, extent, budget and deadline (print works backwards: the event date sets the whole schedule).
  2. Concept: format, layout of the first spreads, typography and paper selection.
  3. Design and typesetting: content batches in an agreed approval rhythm.
  4. Production preparation: files, proofs, printer selection.
  5. Print supervision: quality control through to delivery.

Why Sweet Lava

Most digital agencies never touch print; most DTP studios never build websites or apps. We do both – which is why a brand served by Sweet Lava speaks with one voice on paper, on a phone screen and inside an application.

Frequently asked questions

What kinds of publications do you design?

Product catalogues, annual reports, books and albums, company magazines, brochures, trade-fair folders, conference materials, stationery and identity sets. From a single leaflet to publications hundreds of pages long.

How much does catalogue design and typesetting cost?

Layout design and typesetting typically costs €60–120 net per page for larger publications, with a higher rate for the concept design of the opening spreads. Annual reports and premium publications are quoted individually – write to us and we will give you concrete numbers.

Do you handle printing as well?

We supervise the entire production process: we prepare production files, select paper stocks and finishes, gather printer quotes, run colour proofs and check quality on press. We have worked with printing houses for years – we know what to watch for.

Can a publication also have a digital version?

Yes – that is our speciality. We design the same report or catalogue for print and for the web in parallel: as an accessible PDF, an e-book or an interactive website. One design process, consistent media.

Do you work with our content or help create it?

Both. We can work with your finished texts and photos, or organise everything: editing, proofreading, photo shoots, infographics and data visualisations.
