What is Customer journey map?

A customer journey map is a visualisation of a customer's entire path with a brand – from first contact through purchase to support – with emotions, touchpoints and friction at every stage.

A journey map reveals what no single department can see: the customer doesn't distinguish "marketing", "sales" and "support" – they live one continuous story. The map glues that story together and exposes where it breaks.

A typical map includes: journey stages (awareness → consideration → purchase → use → loyalty), the customer's actions and questions, touchpoints (website, email, phone, parcel), emotions, and identified problems and opportunities.

Practical effect: maps often reveal that the biggest losses are not where the company looks (advertising) but in "boring" places – the order confirmation, the first-use instructions, the post-purchase email.
